Gold Prices Rise in Vietnam: Global Tensions Impact Bullion Rates (2026)

Gold prices in Vietnam experienced a slight increase on Friday morning, mirroring a global trend that saw bullion rates set for a weekly decline. The Saigon Jewelry Company's gold bar price surged by 0.6%, reaching VND149.9 million (US$5,702.33) per tael, despite a nearly 1% weekly drop. This local price hike is notable, as it stands VND18.3 million per tael higher than global rates.

The gold ring price also saw a modest rise of 0.47%, reaching VND149.4 million per tael. A tael, equivalent to 37.5 grams or 1.2 ounces, plays a pivotal role in these price movements.

On a global scale, gold prices exhibited a mixed trend on Friday. While the dollar softened, contributing to a slight upward tick, concerns about U.S.-Iran tensions and their potential to trigger inflation kept the U.S. Federal Reserve on a hawkish monetary policy path. Spot gold prices climbed 0.2% to $4,128.92 per ounce, but were still on track for a weekly decline of over 1%. U.S. gold futures for August delivery remained steady at $4,139.50.

The recent U.S.-Iran strikes have heightened inflation concerns and increased the likelihood of the Fed raising interest rates this year. This dynamic poses a challenge for gold, which is traditionally viewed as a hedge against inflation. In a high-interest-rate environment, gold's non-yielding nature diminishes its appeal.

Tim Waterer, chief market analyst at KCM Trade, commented on the situation, stating that traders are hesitant to commit to further gold gains due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding U.S.-Iran relations. He added that gold's attractiveness as a safe-haven asset depends on oil prices. If oil prices remain stable, gold is likely to attract buyers on dips. However, any sharp spike in oil prices could reignite inflation and interest rate fears, which would negatively impact gold's performance.

This scenario highlights the complex interplay between geopolitical tensions, inflation, and monetary policy, all of which have a significant influence on gold's price trajectory. As the global economic landscape continues to evolve, investors and traders must carefully navigate these dynamics to make informed decisions regarding their gold holdings.
