The 2026 Toyota GR Yaris is a rally-bred hot hatch that has received a light update, introducing a small selection of parts and tweaks that have been "directly inspired by its motorsport programs" for no extra cost. The new steering wheel is a standout feature, with a reduced diameter and redesigned grip for improved cornering. The motorsport-style controls and ringed illumination enhance legibility, while the centre pad now displays Gazoo Racing's 'GR' logo, reflecting Toyota's ambition to evolve Gazoo Racing into a standalone brand globally.
The electric power steering has been retuned with an expanded operating range, and the top-spec GR Yaris GTS now comes equipped with high-performance Bridgestone Potenza race tyres for increased cornering grip. These updates follow a more significant mid-life update applied to the GR Yaris and its larger GR Corolla sibling in early 2025, which included slight increases in power and torque, a new sub-radiator, an intercooler water sprayer, revised interior and exterior styling, and an automatic transmission for the first time.
The optional Aero Performance Pack, exclusive to the GR Yaris GTS, adds motorsport-inspired aesthetics with a front lip spoiler, vents on the bonnet, front guards, and rear guards, a manually adjustable roof spoiler, and aerodynamic underfloor components. Despite no mechanical changes, the GR Yaris continues to be powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine producing 221kW of power and 400Nm of torque, with all-wheel drive via a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission.
Toyota Australia has confirmed no price changes, keeping the range's starting price at $55,490 for the manual GT and $60,490 for the GTS, with the GTS optioned with the Aero Performance Pack for an extra $4500. An even more hardcore GR Yaris, the limited-edition Morizo RR, has been revealed overseas but will not be available in Australia.
The updates to the GR Yaris showcase how Toyota's motorsport endeavours influence its GR-branded cars, even with minor tweaks.
